Laya-Lingzhi (Jumolhari) Trek

Day 1: KTM/BKK/DEL/CCU – PBH
Arrive Paro. You will be received by our escort and transfer to hotel. O/N Paro.

Day 2: Paro Sightseeing 
Today’s sightseeing starts with a visit to Ta Dzong – the national museum of the kingdom (except on Sunday, Monday and govt. Holidays), walk down to visit the Paro Dzong namely Rinohung Dzong meaning –“Fortress on the Heap of Jewels”. Also visit the Kyichu lhakhang, one of the oldest and most sacred shrines of Bhutan, dating from the introduction of Buddhism built by the Tibetan king Songtsen Goenpo. Afternoon excursion to Taktshang Monastery which offers you a stunning view will be great and memory to remain. And on your way back drive up to the ruined Drukgyel Dzong meaning “victorious fortress” which defended the Kingdom from the several Tibetan attacks. O/N Paro.

Day 3: Paro - Shana 
Your transport will drive you till the point where the trek starts i.e. till the point where the ruined Drukgyel Dzong stands. The trail goes upstream Pa Chu, through the villages gradually ascending to about 2580m thereby reaching to Shana campsite.

Day 4: Shana – Soi Thangthangkha 
The trail ascends and descends through pine, oak and spurce forests. Lunch will be served on crossing the bridge on the left side of the Pa Chu. After lunch ascend uphill through rhododendron forests crossing the bridge once again. Walking time of around 9/10 hrs. You will be reached to the campsite at an alt. of 3750m.

Day 5: Soi Thangthangkha – Jangothang.
With a gradual ascend you will reach the army camp nearby and then follow the river above the tree line with the stunning view of the peaks around. Lunch served nearby the Yak herder’s camp. After lunch and about an short walk you will reach at a height of about 4040m at the campsite from where you van view the great mount. Jumolhari and Jichu Drak. Trail walking time is about 5-6 hrs. O/N camp.

Day 6: Jangothang halt
Rest day at Jangothang to capture the great view in and around.

Day 7: Jangothang – Lingshi
Today’s trail follows the small stream for about half an hour and crosses the bridge from where you begin by climbing uphill to enjoy the breathtaking view of the mount Jumolhari, Jichu Drak and Tshirim Gang. Then walk through the valley until you climb at Nye Lela pass at an alt. of 4700m. Crossing this pass with a gradual descend down to Lingshi to experience a panoramic view of Lingshi Dzong. And today’s campsite is at an alt. of 4000m and walking distance of around 7-8 hrs.

Day 8: Lingshi – Chebisa
Trail today takes you passing the Lingshi Dzong, perched on the hilltop with a commanding view of green hills and peaks. It is an easy and pleasant walk through villages and Yak herder’s camp. Short walk after lunch will take you to Chebisa village. Camp by the side of swift flowing stream at an alt. of 3850m. Trail’s walking time is about 5-6 hrs.

Day 9: Chebisa – Shoumuthang.
Trail begins with a stiff climb up a ridge to Gubula Pass at an alt. of 4500m, which takes nearly 4 hrs. Descend down for lunch stop, through the rhododendron bushes. Crossing the stream through the rhododendron forests and yak herder’s camp you will see Blue sheep. Camp at an alt of 4250m with a walking distance of about 7-8 hrs.

Day 10: Shomuthang – Robluthang
The trek trail starts with a climb to Jarila pass at an alt. of 4600m then descends to Tashsrijathang valley, the summer residence of rare Himalayan takin- the national animal of the kingdom. After crossing meanders of stream the trail ascends till you reach Robluthang camp at an alt. of 4400m with a walking time of 8-9 hrs.

Day 11: Robluthnag – Limithang.
Trail takes you to climb till you are at the Shinjela pass at an alt. of 4900m, from where views of mountains are stunning. Then descend to limithang through narrow pass, from where the great view of mount. Gangchey Ta Peak is offered. Campsite at an alt. of 4100m.

Day 12: Limithang – Laya.
Early view of Gangchey Ta peak is breathtaking in front of you. Pleasant walk to Laya with a wonderful views passing through a dense forest and arrive at Laya village, one of the second highest settlements in the kingdom at an alt. of  3800m with a walking distance of 5-6 hrs.

Day 13: Rest day at Laya

est day at Laya is to explore the village around and visit to some of the household where the perfect traditional hospitality will be extended with an offer of cup of tea an Chang (local wine). Halt at Laya.

Day 14: Laya – Chamsa
Descending you will reach to an army camp and join the Mo Chu (mother river of Punakha), and following the river till  you cross the bridge, take you through Juniper and fir forest until you reach the campsite at chamsa at an alt. of 3800m with an walking distance of about 8-9 hrs.

Day 15: Chamsa – Gasa Tshachu
Walk through smooth flat land about an half an hour till you reach the Belela pass. Descend gradually towards Gasa Tshachu, where lunch will be served in Gasa village at an alt. of 2700m. After lunch visit the village and Gasa Dzong built in 17th century by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel the first religious king of Bhutan, to protect the village against the Tibetan invasions. Then descend to Gasa Tshachu (hot spring) for a camp at an alt. of 2200m with a walking time of 5-6 hrs.

Day 16: Gasa Tshachu Rest Day
After a long duration trek, it is a place for relaxation where you can enjoy the hot spring bath and local drinks and exploring the village in an around.

Day 17: Gasa Tshachu – Damji
Descending and ascending through heavily forested areas and wild orchards where you must be careful with the leeches attack. Campsite nearby Damji village at an alt. of 2200m with a walking distance of 5-6 hrs.

Day 18: Damji – Tashithang – Punakha.
Last day of your trek continues following the Mo Chu (Mother river) down till you reach Tashithang at an alt. of 1620m. Where your transport will be ready to receive and drive you towards Punakha (15 kms). O/N hotel in Punakha.

Day 19: Punakha – Thimphu.
Morning sightseeing in Punakha with a visit to Punakha Dzong, enroute visit Chhimi Lhakhang built by the great saint commonly called lama Drukpa Kuenley – “The divine Madman”, where childless parents visit there to get a blessing from his wooden phallus. And also visit Wangdiphoidrang Dzong which is the only Dzong with a traditional roof covered with wooden planks. Afternoon drives towards Thimphu crossing by a Dochula pass at an alt. of 3100m.O/N Thimphu.

Day 20: Thimphu Sightseeing
Whole day Thimphu sightseeing includes visits: to painting school where centuries old art of Bhutanese paintings is taught, National Library which houses vast collection of ancient Buddhist texts, manuscripts, Traditional Medicine Institute where centuries old healing arts still practiced. After lunch visit handicrafts Emporium where exotic weaves in silk, wool, cotton, silver jewellery, carpets, thangka paintings, bamboo ware and other traditional crafts of the Kingdom are available, Textile Museum and towards the Mini Zoo of the kingdom to watch the National Animal of the Kingdom. Towards evening drive to Paro. O/N Paro.

Day 21: PBH- KTM/BKK/CCU
With an early breakfast drive to airport for the onward destinations.
